have been weaving baskets and textiles for over thirty years, but ever since I first discovered the "Nantucket" basket style I’ve concentrated exclusively on the genre. These baskets have such a rich heritage and are so evocative of a bygone era that I immediately fell in love with them. It is truly a love affair for me.

Originally created by the men who manned the famous Nantucket lightships as a way to escape the monotonous duty lighting the way for whaling ships through the treacherous shoals in and out of Nantucket Harbor, the style has evolved from the original crude attempts into an art form that today is recognized all over the world. Indeed, some of the original "Nantucket Lightship" baskets are now displayed in museums and originals still on the market command astronomical prices.

Sailors created their own designs and each had their own style of weaving. Each basket is as distinctive as a fingerprint. Experts can distinguish between individual weaver’s styles without even looking at the signatures on the bottom of each basket.

Just as the original sailors created distinctive designs, I have endeavored to imprint my baskets with my personal style. Some of my weavings are based on traditional designs. Many are my interpretation of these designs adapted to contemporary usage. Each basket is totally unique, each is a work of art and each has its own appeal. I prefer to work with cherry or walnut staves, bases and rims. The weaving material is cane and the knobs and quarterboards are estate ivory. Each basket has a protective Tung oil finish that allows the natural beauty of the wood to come through.

Baskets can be purchased as displayed or can be personalized with your name, your monogram or with personalized scrimshaw designs on your choice of legal ivory, bone or acrylic. I also love to create special designs and styles of baskets to meet individual desires.
